1. High volume hydraulic fracturing (fracking) began 8 years ago in the US. In the last 8 years consumption of fracked gas rose to 30% of total consumption.
2. Hundreds of contractors have been fracking, made a profit and sold the fracked gas cheap but the supply has peaked and many of them are struggling to service their debt. So now they’re in a trap, they have to keep spending, drill more often for dwindling returns.
3. It has now peaked leaving 1) land and water poisoned 2) farmers bankrupt 3) animals and people sick and dead.dead-dog-very-small
4. The Conservative party wants to frack here. Labour and UKIP support it. (They always want to copy America).

Addition to the above: The fossil fuels obtained by fracking are oil as well as gas. Each operation of a well is called “a play”.

Improved technology has increased the yield from the fracked rocks and made it possible to drill deeper. After three years the fossil fuels obtained from each well are down to 13% so constant drilling is necessary for production to stay level. Obviously the sweet spots are drilled first.

There is no doubt that vast profits have been made. Nonetheless fracking has plateaued and the problem for frackers is to service their debts by drilling less productive plays.
Of course they do not take into account the devastation caused. “Cleaning up” would be impossible anyway.

They will continue to frack until 2020 when diminished supplies will bring this bonanza to an end. With a probable string of bankruptcies and financial losses.
Six more years! We are giving the earth a hard time.

  1. Dear Vivienne, I just saw your fracking video on TV. It was calm, reasoned and absolutely right. I wish you well in your campaign.
