Alex Simpson – Fully Focused

I was invited to take part in Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label show. It was a surreal experience, everything I would expect from a Vivienne Westwood fashion show made even better by the focus on the need to for action against climate change; a “climate revolution”. I was part of the ensemble charged with standing over the runway as the models did their thing. We held signs of protest against austerity, climate change and those politicians that allow it to continue. Its absolutely important that more and more people stand up and fight for humanity, especially the young. Young people are the ones who have suffered most from government austerity measures… loss of benefits, rise in university fees and hardly any jobs for those who graduate. We are the ones who will be most affected by continuous global warming, not to mention our future children. It will be a very different world by the time we are our parents’ age. More people care about these issues than those that don’t, we have power in numbers and need to start making it count!

Putting all that aside… the whole “taking over entire streets” part of a protest is a pretty cool experience, feels like a miniature festival once you find the right crowd. Don’t just stand and watch!  Its your world too, march with us!
