Last night, Climate Revolution and Project 0 teamed up to launch an IoU student night aimed to engage young people in topics of climate change and politics.

The topic of yesterday’s event at The Box was ocean protection with talks from Vivienne Westwood, James Jagger and Mike Walker from Project 0, with live music from Ray Noir, Mic Righteous and Raindog.
Stop using plastic straws! 4 million straws are used daily in the UK alone, in the US a staggering 50 million. If mankind continues to dump plastic in the oceans at its current rate, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish by 2050. 100 million sharks are killed every year. Sharks are vital for the ocean’s eco-system. If sharks die we die!
Vivienne said “We have to work through governments” and told the audience about her upcoming visit with Theresa May: “I have got a lot to say to her, and I will”.
Mrs. May, use your chance to do something good for the planet, don’t just be a reflex politician!

“Intellectuals are supposed to be some sort of elite, whereas intellectuals are people who think, everybody here is an intellectual because they are thinking and caring about the world” said Vivienne Westwood at last night’s event.

————-

This is my speech for the IoU Box event tonight and is what I want to discuss with Theresa May.

Four years ago my friend Cynthia and I launched Climate Revolution, I launched it at the Paralympics. We wanted to do two things, 1.) analyse the problem – I’m very good at that, that’s what makes me a good designer 2.) to work and link with other NGO’s. The problem of course was to stop climate change.

The cause of the problem is the Rotten Financial System itself. Rot$ is designed to create austerity, poverty, climate change and war. It’s run by banks, conglomerates and the politicians who serve them. It is now global. What this means is 1 million people control 7 billion.

After four years, I can’t think of one politician in a position of power who has done anything to stop it.

We have to work through governments – build up an effective opposition in numbers and credibility to put pressure on them. Time has run out. For this reason, I decided to appeal to the intellectuals (IoU has begun). This is great and it will work, but we need help.

Eureka! There are thousands of NGO’s and even more charities all doing the work that government should be doing. They are the most powerful opposition the world has ever known. Many of them are already linked, but they are not linked in opposition. Don’t pretend! You cannot simply continue to do what you are doing because soon there won’t be an Oxfam or an RSPB. Nobody will be able to help anybody. We and the birds will be dying en masse. Unite politically with us against Rot$ and against the politicians who enforce it.

We live in a myth, we think there’s no other way to live; Rot$ will implode financially from poverty, war, climate change and lack of biodiversity. We will die when in fact there’s a much better way to live.

  1. Shame you didn’t let any young people in to the event! Only VIPS on guest list allowed in. Such a let down for students who spent money to travel to the event, queued up for hours and got shoved away for the event to be filled by the exact rich perpetrators you are speaking against. Ridiculous really and such a shame as this is such an interesting topic that young people need to know more about. The well suited and booted just don’t care – let’s be honest this was just another LFW event. Such a shame.
