This is our speech for COP27

The only sure way to halt climate change (cc) is to work with government, but that is impossible because governments are the problem. Everything they do creates cc. The problem is corruption worldwide because capitalism itself is a corrupt economic system.

Ridiculously, every person who votes, votes for a system that takes money from the poor and gives it to the rich. Everything the capitalist governments do is wrong. World debt at the moment is more than 300 trillion.  Growth means debt and growth means corruption.

This is what we’re asking: if you make a pledge it must be put into law.

At the last COP26, territories UK, EU, USA, Republic of Korea, Norway between them pledged £500 million to give to the Congo so they could preserve their rainforest. None of them fulfilled their pledge. Greenpeace Africa organised a petition in protest which gathered over 100K signatures.

At the moment, the Congo is in process of selling off their land to the highest bidder for oil excavation. In January the winning bidders will be announced. Felix Tshisekedi, President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, says he cares about the economy more than the environment. So does every capitalist. What false economy this is. True economy is based on the value of land.

The law of Congo states that they must get permission from the indigenous people to see if they agree to the sale of their land. Greenpeace has found that none of them has been informed. Which means that 1 million people will be thrown off their land illegally. What is going to happen to these people?

This is an example of false economy. Nothing is truly costed, including loss of life – your life – it’s short-term cash in exchange for no future. Live today, die tomorrow. It means you place no value on the rainforest, you ignore the fact that the rainforest saves lives – your life.

Climate change is tipping over. We live in a world where corruption rules. We use the law to help us break the law.

Congo’s Rainforest has just been sold off to the oil companies by an illegal process. We are cutting off our oxygen, whatever is left on this planet is the highest call of everyone to preserve.

  1. Wow! What an excellent speech! Thanks Vivienne for pointing out so many powerful truths about the world economy. Countries around the world are putting profit above people and the environment. There will be no change unless we change the system. Thanks again for posting this!

    Best,

  2. Thank you for sharing this! Truly I did not know that one, the money was pledged and never given to the efforts of growing back the forests and two, that they went ahead and sold off the land anyway.
