Money Notes 1 – MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE
by Gordon Swire

‘Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat money’ – Native American Proverb

One day many years ago, when I was in my early teens, a careers advisor arrived at school and asked what we planned to do when we became real adults. I can’t remember what my reply was but I do remember being a bit dumbfounded when one of my mates in class said he planned to work in banking. I thought the idea of standing behind a counter taking in people’s savings sounded about as interesting as watching grass grow. I was watching films about Al Capone, about Bonnie and Clyde and the Lavender Hill Mob. I never realised that my mate planned to join an industry that robbed and scammed on a scale that would make these iconic gangsters appear as innocent as vicars at a Sunday tea party.

Some of the largest banks on Wall Street are City Group, JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo and the king of all Goldman Sachs. These banks operate right across the world, they have influence and control over the financial ground rules in many countries and they operate with the raw ambition of a bunch of racketeering mafia.

Goldman Sachs is a prime example. This is the bank that has been charged on many occasions with financial fraud, the bank that manipulated the accounts of the Greek government so that they could meet the rules for joining the EU.

For its alleged role in the great financial crisis that started in 2007/8 Goldman Sachs’s actions were described by US Senator Carl Levin as ‘deceptive and immoral’. He stated that ‘It’s actions did immense harm to its clients, and helped create the financial crisis that nearly plunged us into a 2nd Great Depression’

Here are some of Goldman Sachs’s past alumni with links to later career moves.

Mark Carney              Governor of Bank of England

Rishi Sunak                Chancellor of the Exchequer

Emanuel Macron      President of France

Mario Draghi             President of the European Central Bank

Chris Grigg                 CEO of British Land

Romano Prodi            Prime Minister of Italy

Malcolm Turnbull     Prime Minister of Australia

Ian Macfarlane          Governor of Reserve Bank of Australia

Tito Mbweni               Governor of Reserve Bank of South Africa

See any connection?
Ever heard of the revolving door?

The bankers of Wall Street are a breed apart. They now fund the largest lobbying groups in Washington and contribute massive amounts of money to both sides of US elections, they have conspired to ensure they are now ‘too big to fail’, they work hand in glove with the large military machines producing wars without end, they promote unbridled consumption of the world’s resources with no regard for the consequences, they lack a moral compass as they charge forward on their quest for unbridled wealth.
Oh, and they lie, big time.

These so called ‘Masters of the Universe’ must be reined in and regulated if we are to have any chance of saving our world from a dreadful, disastrous, dystopian future.
