If we don’t save the Rainforest- Forget it!
First we saved the Rainforest.
Will they ever know we saved the planet?
Most of you know that I’ve always used my fashion shows as a platform for my belief in the importance of social justice and the urgent need to fight climate change. Tonight I’m introducing the Rainforest charity, Cool Earth, and a campaign that is very close to my heart- a plan to save the most vulnerable Rainforest areas by 2020.
We must begin today- tomorrow is too late. Governments have been talking about saving the Rainforest for 40 years. Now, only half of it is left. Since launching in 2007, Cool Earth has worked with indigenous Rainforest people to protect 2.5 million acres in the Western Amazon and block the advance of illegal logging- the first stage in most Rainforest destruction. We plan to extend this effective community-lead model along the most critical arcs of deforestation in the Amazon, the Congo Basin and Borneo- the groundwork has already been laid. We need your help to continue.
I am personally supporting Cool Earth and investing in our future. Tonight marks the start of our fundraising campaign for Cool Earth- we will have the official launch in November. I remember you first mentioned Cool Earth some time ago Vivienne, and I am so glad that your alliance is becoming so much more official. I have been browsing the site, and thinking about the rainforest so much recently, and it actually makes me quite emotional when I think of what it is possible to do if we all put our heads together. Cool Earth’s website shows us plenty. As little as £60 to protect an entire acre of rainforest. It might not be much, but it’s better than letting the most biodiverse habitat on the planet be wiped out in one generation. This really is something that the Human Race cannot afford to do.
As written in the manifesto,
“How can humans be happy? For every tree they cut down a future child dies and there are more trees than children. Some people know these things, but they plan to end the forest in one generation.”
How can we possibly be happy while the destruction of such an amazing place is happening all the time?
I don’t get paid for another few weeks. But this month I guarantee that I am going to save the life of at least one of the earth’s future children. And I don’t think that anything says ‘Get A Life’ better than that.

This is very interesting, – I really like how you can select your own tree, as if you know exactly what your money is doing and saving.
I think something a lot of people overlook when they see charities who are working hard to protect the rainforest, – you don’t know exactly what you are paying for – and this creates a much more personal level of becoming an activist in saving the rainforest.

What a great charity. The sponsoring of rain forest and trees would make a great Christmas gift for the children that seem to have everything. Also a great way to encourage them to learn about the rainforest and protecting the environment.
